After scoring two goals in a 5-0 UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final victory against FC Malmö, Lotta Schelin said "nothing can stop" Olympique Lyonnais from completing a hat-trick of UEFA Women's Champions League triumphs, provided the French team maintain the level of performance they delivered in the first leg.
Disappointment was the overriding feeling in the visitors' camp, meanwhile, with coach Jonas Eidevall identifying too many mistakes and the lack of a cutting edge as the reasons for his team's heavy defeat in eastern France.
Lotta Schelin, Lyon striker
We are very happy with the result and with the way we played. We focused on the game very seriously. The proof is that we won 5-0. We used space very well and scored goals at the right time. Malmö have good players and play well. We were stronger tonight. If we continue on this path, in good form and being as efficient as we were tonight, nothing can stop us.
Sonia Bompastor, Lyon defender
We focused very seriously on the match knowing that Malmö have good attacking quality in Anja Mittag and Manon Melis. We have made things easy for ourselves going into the second leg. We are in a good position to reach the semi-finals and to beat Göteborg or Juvisy. We have the skills to win the Champions League for the third time in a row.
Elin Rubensson, Malmö midfielder
It is not good at all to have conceded five goals. We did not think Lyon were that much better than we were. I don't know what to say because we are so disappointed. To qualify we have to score at least five goals, so it will be hard, but we can play better. It will be a different game next week in the second leg.
Jonas Eidevall, Malmö coach
We are very disappointed with the result – it is not what we hoped for. We made too many mistakes and were punished. At the same time, we were not able to convert our chances, especially during the first half. We could have reached half-time leading 1-0 − this would have made a big difference. Despite that, we started the second half in a positive way, but then Lyon scored again. Tonight was a good lesson. To go through will be very difficult. It is hard to think about winning 5-0 or 6-0 at the moment.
