Apollon thrilled, Voss hails Duisburg

UEFA.com has the reaction from the nine sides through from the qualifying round including former winners FCR 2001 Duisburg and surprise package Apollon Limassol LFC.

FCR 2001 Duisburg, Brøndby IF, Everton, Apollon Limassol LFC, FCF Juvisy Essonne, ASD Bardolino Verona and FC Rossiyanka all won their UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying round groups on Tuesday night. They progress to the round of 32 along with best runners-up Breidablik and ŽNK Krka, who pipped teams including Glasgow City FC, Gintra Universitetas and St Francis FC. UEFA.com rounds up the reaction from the nine qualifiers plus some of the sides that just missed out.

Group 1
FC NSA Sofia 0-3 Brøndby IF

Peer Lisdorf, Brøndby coach
Sofia were by far the strongest opposition we have faced in this qualifying group, but our tactics of stopping their skilful attacking players and closing down the right side worked well. If I am to single out one player I would like to praise Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen, who has been a real force in midfield with her energy, work rate and technical ability. All three of our forwards did well and made a lot of important runs off the ball. It was good experience to face international opposition, so all in all a great start to our European campaign.

Group 2
Gintra Universitetas 0-7 Everton
Jody Handley, Everton captain

A very physical game. I think [Gintra] were much stronger in the second half [than the first] and it was much more difficult for us. We did not expect to score seven goals. We were lucky to have six before half-time. In the second we scored only once, so all credit to our opponents. It was our hardest game in the tournament.

Rimas Viktoravicius, Gintra Universitetas coach
We have only two or three such competitive games a year. My girls were too nervous before kick-off and as a result we conceded six goals in the first half. But the girls got themselves together and played with more confidence.

Group 3
Apollon Limassol LFC 3-0 ASA Tel-Aviv
Christakis Christoforou, Apollon coach

It was a great result and the perfect ending for us in this phase. This is a new team with just two years' experience in the Champions League and only one defeat. I am very pleased. We now look towards the draw for the next round and hope it will be kind for us. This team has a lot of potential and can go far.

Group 4
Breidablik 3-3 FCF Juvisy Essonne
Sandrine Mathivet, Juvisy coach

We controlled the game, at least in the first half, and had many great chances to score. If we had scored two goals in the first half it would have been easier. I was not pleased with the goals Breidablik scored, all coming after individual and team mistakes which should not been seen at this level. We should be able to keep a lead because that is our strength but my team was also aware that a draw would be enough for us.

Hlín Gunnlaugsdóttir, Breidablik captain
We were under pressure throughout and this was a very difficult game but we kept on going and made the most of our chances. We were mostly chasing them in the first half and were lucky to have the lead after half-time because they did not take their chances. We were clumsy to lose our lead and somehow lost a little bit faith but managed to find a good spirit within ourselves to take our chances in the second half. It is a dream come true getting to the next round in this competition and hopefully we will now get a team we can beat rather than one of the big clubs.

Group 5
ŽNK Krka 1-4 ASD Bardolino Verona
Renato Longega, Bardolino coach

It was a hard-fought victory, regardless of the final score. We managed to score four goals and had plenty more good chances. We deserved to win this tournament, although I've seen a lot of progress by Krka.

Boris Devetak, Krka coach
Bardolino proved their worth but I am proud of my team, who never gave up. It looks like we've made it by a whisker and I am ecstatic.

Group 6
1° Dezembro 1-4 FC Rossiyanka
Tatiana Egorova, Rossiyanka coach

We had been expecting a tougher match, we followed the Portuguese team before and they looked stronger. We are happy we won the tournament.

St Francis FC 5-3 WFC Osijek
Breifne Earley, St Francis manager

I knew that the Croatian side would come out strong and fade considerably in the second half, because they did the same in the previous matches, but I didn't expect us to be 3-0 down after 17 minutes. However, we heard nine or ten of our fans singing and came out strong in the second half. The girls did a tremendous job to pull off such a comeback. I'm delighted.

Group 7
Glasgow City FC 0-4 FCR 2001 Duisburg
Martina Voss, Duisburg coach

The victory was well deserved, especially after the performance in the first half. In the second half we changed the players who had previously been injured and tried out some other things. Compliments to Glasgow, who fought very hard for 90 minutes even after going three and four down, and played as we expected – fighting, working and running.

Peter Caulfield, Glasgow manager
There's no doubt about the quality of the German side, we knew that. We had watched them for a number of months and recognised their quality and the players they have, so we knew it was going to be extremely difficult. But we are a bit disappointed with our first half performance, we could have played a wee bit better. We are a young side with very limited experience at this level and I think the Germans' experience really help them in the first half. We couldn't get on the ball in that period or make passes, the Germans pressed our midfield and gave us a lot of problems. They got their tactics right, nullified us and stopped us from playing.
