All set for Lyon-Wolfsburg final showdown

Holders Olympique Lyonnais face debutants VfL Wolfsburg in the UEFA Women's Champions League final on 23 May at Stamford Bridge and tickets are just £10 (€12) and £5 (€6).

Just as in the three previous UEFA Women's Champions League finals since the competition took its current form in 2009/10, Olympique Lyonnais will face German opposition, this time VfL Wolfsburg at 19.30 local time (20.30CET) on 23 May at Chelsea FC's Stamford Bridge in London.

Lyon, aiming for an unprecedented third straight European title, were in ominous form as they won 6-1 at French rivals FCF Juvisy Essonne on Sunday to complete a 9-1 aggregate semi-final triumph. They will hope to repeat their 2-0 victories in Munich last year against 1. FFC Frankfurt and at London's Craven Cottage 12 months before versus 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, who themselves defeated Lyon on penalties in the 2010 final at Getafe.

Wolfsburg beat Arsenal LFC 2-1 at the weekend, and 4-1 on aggregate, to make the final in their debut European season. They can take heart from the fact that three of the four previous German entrants in UEFA women's club competition – Frankfurt, Potsdam and FCR 2001 Duisburg – prevailed in their maiden continental campaigns.

Although Wolfsburg midfielder Viola Odebrecht, who figured in Potsdam's wins in 2005 and 2010, is suspended for the final, they are not short on experience. In particular Conny Pohlers will be attempting to become the first player to lift the trophy with three different clubs, having triumphed with Potsdam in 2005 and Frankfurt three years later.

Pohlers' eight goals this term have also made her the all-time leading UEFA women's club competition scorer on 42. She is three behind this season's current leading markswoman, Apollon Limassol LFC's Laura Rus on 11. Lotta Schelin has netted seven times for Lyon this campaign, all in the quarter and semi-finals, and three of her team-mates also have at least five in Europe in 2012/13: Laëtitia Tonazzi, Camille Abily and Louisa Necib.

Final tickets, priced at just £10 (€12), and £5 (€6) for under-18s and over-65s, can be bought from Chelsea's official website at www.chelseafc.com/uefawomensfinal.
