Schelin signs on for more at Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais got a timely boost ahead of Thursday's final as Sweden striker Lotta Schelin, the club's second all-time goalscorer, signed a three-year contract extension.

Sweden striker Lotta Schelin has signed a three-year contract extension at Olympique Lyonnais, tying her to the club until June 2016.

The 29-year-old would have been out of contract on 30 June and the European champions were keen to secure the services of a player who has underpinned their success since joining in 2008. She has won the French title every season she has been there, also collecting UEFA Women's Champions League winners' medals the past two campaigns.

Schelin could make it three in a row next Thursday when Lyon face VfL Wolfsburg in the Stamford Bridge final, and her new deal provides a timely lift. "OL are delighted to have extended the stay of one of women's football's global stars, confirming our huge ambitions," said the club. Schelin is Lyon's second highest all-time scorer, behind Sandrine Brétigny, with 81 league goals and 33 in Europe.
