Already shorn of Selina Wagner and possibly Alexandra Popp, VfL Wolfsburg have been dealt another blow before Thursday's UEFA Women's Champions League final against Olympique Lyonnais with the news that defender Verena Faisst will miss the match due to glandular fever.
According to a club statement, the 23-year-old is "out indefinitely" with the illness, which could mean the German international sits out UEFA Women's EURO 2013 in Sweden in July.
Coach Ralf Kellermann said: "This is a massive loss at a very awkward time for us. Verena already missed the cup final [a 3-2 win on Sunday against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam] and I am very sad for her as she is missing the game in London as well."
The German title holders, meanwhile, have announced the signing of 17-year-old Swiss international Noelle Maritz for next season. The defender, capped four times at senior level, arrives from FC Zürich and has agreed a deal running until summer 2015.
"The competition [to sign her] was very high, so we are happy to have convinced Noelle to join Wolfsburg," said Kellermann.
