Zorkiy 0-3 Atlético Madrid (agg: 2-3)
Last week Atlético dominated Zorkiy only to lose 2-0 at home but the European debutants turned the tie in Russia in dramatic circumstances. A fine finish from Esther Gonzalez on nine minutes gave them hope, but their efforts seemed to be in vain.

However, the turning point was with 17 minutes to go when Tatiana Skotnikova's penalty was saved by Dolores Gallardo. The visitors had hope, and in the last six minutes substitutes Beatriz Beltrán and Deborah Garcia, the latter only coming on after the second goal, gave Atlético a round of 16 place alongside Barcelona in the first season where Spain have had two entries.

Zvezda-2005 3-1 Stjarnan (agg: 6-2)
For the second year running, 2009 runners-up Zvezda beat Iceland's Stjarnan home and away to ensure a Russian presence in the round of 16. Olesya Kurochkina turned in Daria Apanashenko's cross early on to effectively settle matters and Stjarnan fell despite winning 13 corners.

FFC Frankfurt 6-0 Standard Liège (agg: 8-0)
Holders Frankfurt cruised through but Standard showed promise before the break through the lively Sanne Schoenmakers. However, early on Kerstin Garefrekes's lob was headed in by last year's late final match-winner Mandy Islacker and she then returned the favour for her colleague to make it 2-0. After half-time Ana-Maria Crnogorčević was brought down for a penalty converted by Saskia Bartusiak and some nice work by Jackie Groenen allowed Yuki Ogimi to make it four. Crnogorčević with a nice curler and Isabelle Linden after being released by fellow substitute Emily Van Egmond had the final say.

Verona 2-2 St. Pölten-Spratzern (agg: 6-7)
Verona were grateful for their 5-4 win in Austria last week and two Melania Gabbiadini penalties after twice trailing tonight. Fanni Vágó gave Spratzern an eighth-minute lead from Barbara Dunst's pass but Gabbiadini restored parity on the night from the penalty spot shortly after.

Vágó was on hand to turn the ball in from close range after Viktoria Pinther's overhead kick turned into an assist with 20 minutes left. Gabbiadini missed an opportunity to level again with only Roxana Oprea to beat, while it was Spratzern who surged forwards looking for a third goal which would have sent them through. Vágó nearly found it with ten minutes to go, but her effort was deflected just wide of the far post before Gabbiadini's second penalty of the night put the result beyond the visitors.
