Cup hopefuls learn their fate

Forty-three teams were involved as the draws took place for the first and second qualifying rounds of the 2006/07 UEFA Women's Cup at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland.

The draw has taken place for the first and second qualifying rounds of the 2006/07 UEFA Women's Cup at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland.

Nine groups
The first round, to be played between 8-13 August, consists of nine groups of four teams. The winners of each section will progress to join the seeded teams in four second-round groups, also comprising four teams, which are scheduled for 12-17 September. The top two clubs from these pools will qualify for the quarter-finals in October. As in previous campaigns, the two-legged final will be held in May. Germany's 1. FFC Frankfurt defeated Bundesliga rivals 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam 7-2 on aggregate in last season's showpiece.

Holders
Both sides will enter this edition in the second qualifying round along with the five other clubs with the best coefficients over the last three seasons – two-time winners Umeå IK of Sweden, Danish champions Brøndby IF, England's double-winners, Arsenal LFC, Kolbotn IL from Norway, and Czech challengers AC Sparta Praha.

New clubs
Two of the new clubs to the competition, Slovakia's FK Slovan Duslo ŠaĬa and WFC Rossiyanka from Russia, were drawn together in Group A7. ASD Fiammamonza (ITA), FC Narta Chisinau (MOL), Dundalk WFC (IRL), ŽNK Pomurje (SLO) and RCD Espanyol (ESP) are the other teams taking part for the first time.
