German champions 1. FFC Frankfurt were held by old rivals 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam this weekend but UEFA Women's Cup holders Arsenal LFC were in free-scoring form ahead of the quarter-final first legs.

Garefrekes equaliser
Frankfurt are in action on Thursday at Russian club WFC Rossiyanka but had not dropped a point from their four league games this season prior to their visit to fellow former European champions Potsdam. In wintry conditions Jennifer Zietz delighted most of the 1,102 crowd by putting third-placed Potsdam ahead with six minutes left but Kerstin Garefrekes equalised three minutes later. Leaders FCR 2001 Duisburg were not in action and are two points ahead of Frankfurt. Rossiyanka ended the Russian season in September, finishing second behind Zvezda-2005 Perm.

Arsenal in form
Arsenal are at Olympique Lyonnais in one of three Wednesday games, and the champions continued their perfect start to the FA Women's Premier League with a 9-0 win against Cardiff City LFC, who represented Wales in Europe this season. Lianne Sanderson scored a hat-trick, Faye White struck twice and Alex Scott, Katie Chapman, Jayne Ludlow and Gemma Davison were also on target as Arsenal kept up the league's only 100 per cent record. Lyon won 2-0 at Evreux AC to stay top in France with seven victories from as many games.

Bardolino setback
Also in winning form are Brøndby IF, who defeated SønderjyskE 2-1 to stay level in points at the top with Fortuna Hjørring. Their quarter-final first-leg hosts ASD CF Bardolino Verona suffered a setback with a 2-1 loss at Atalanta Femminile despite Patrizia Panico pulling a goal back with eight minutes remaining, meaning the champions dropped their first Serie A points of the season and are three behind Torres Terra Sarda.

Umeå rest
Umeå IK finished their fixtures in Sweden on 3 November, winning 5-3 at Djurgårdens IF to end nine points clear at the top, the only disappointment being Marta finishing one behind Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC's Lotta Schelin in the goalscorers' table. On Wednesday, the 2006/07 runners-up are in Belgium to meet FCL Rapide Wezemaal, who beat R. Standard de Liège 4-3 on Saturday to move up to third, six points behind leaders KVK Tienen.
