Zürich's Grings denies Juvisy at the death

Striker Inka Grings fired an added-time equaliser for FC Zürich Frauen to steal a first-leg draw in a tense round of 32 tie and move to within a goal of Hanna Ljungberg's record tally.

Prolific striker Inka Grings scored an added-time equaliser to earn FC Zürich Frauen a 1-1 draw against FCF Juvisy Essone in their UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 first leg.

The Swiss champions have tumbled out at this stage in their last two appearances, and seemed as though they would be travelling to France at a disadvantage after Gaëtane Thiney's strike five minutes into the second half. However, veteran predator Grings had the final say, adding another vital goal to her vast collection to leave the tie delicately poised.  Indeed, her tally of 38 in Europe, mostly for FCR 2001 Duisburg, is only one behind Hanna Ljungberg's record tally.

Clear-cut goalscoring opportunities were at a premium in a cagey affair, and the French runners-up – and 2010/11 quarter-finalists in this competition – Juvisy thought they had won it. Thiney put them in front on 50 minutes, tucking in from close range from Julie Machart's corner, and Zürich rarely threatened a riposte. The home side's sense of security was shattered at the death, however, as Grings converted Karin Bernet's cross to ensure that any Juvisy advantage in the tie was held by away goals only.

The second leg in Sainte-Genevirve des Bois is next Thursday, while the remaining round of 32 first-leg fixtures take place over the next two days. The winners of the tie between Juvisy and Zürich will meet either Stabæk FK or Brøndby IF in the last 16.
