Olympique Lyonnais will aim for a record third straight UEFA Women's Champions League title against VfL Wolfsburg at Stamford Bridge on 23 May after cruising past FCF Juvisy Essonne with a comprehensive 6-1 second-leg win in the all-French semi-final.
Already cradling a 3-0 lead, Lyon needed just six minutes to increase their cushion, Megan Rapinoe finding the net before turning provider for Lotta Schelin. Scorer of a double in the first leg, Schelin added a second after the break and Camille Abily weighed in as well, along with two-goal substitute Laëtitia Tonazzi. Kadidiatou Diani swung in a late consolation for the crestfallen hosts.
Before the match, Juvisy midfielder Gaëtane Thiney had stressed the importance of an early goal, but the visitors had clearly arrived with the same idea, and they made a quick breakthrough when Élodie Thomis sped down the right and looped in a cross for Rapinoe to head in. If that was the ideal start, Lyon then snuffed out Juvisy's mini-revival 13 minutes later, when Schelin raced onto Rapinoe's through ball and finished with sang-froid.
With their final hopes all but over, the home side focused on restoring pride, which in the first half amounted to a Julie Machart attempt fired straight at Sarah Bouhaddi and a Thiney corner which Bouhaddi scooped out from under her crossbar. They conceded a third just six minutes after the restart, however, as Schelin showed her pace again to collect a Wendie Renard clearance and prod neatly beyond Mancion for her seventh effort in this year's competition.
Not finished yet, the 2010/11 and 2011/12 winners added to their advantage shortly after the hour when substitute Eugénie Le Sommer danced into the area and pulled the ball back for Abily to slot in. The punishment persisted too, with former Juvisy forward Tonazzi beating the offside trap to rattle in a pair of goals. That brought up Lyon's 40th strike in this season's UEFA Women's Champions League – and they conceded their first when Diani found the top corner from distance.
Lyon now have gone through a calendar year without failing to win a match since their 0-0 draw against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the equivalent fixture to this on 22 April 2012.
