France stroll to victory in Greece

Greece 0-5 France
An impressive display gave the visitors a victory that keeps them in pole position to reach next summer's finals from Group 3.

An impressive away performance gave France an emphatic 5-0 win in Greece and keeps them in pole position to reach UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ in Finland.

Dominant side
The visitors were the dominant side throughout the game at the Giannis Pathiakakis Stadium in Athens and the win moves them six points clear in qualifying Group 3. Bruno Bini's players had to settle for just a one-goal advantage at half-time when captain Sandrine Soubeyrand struck in the 38th minute but more was to come after the interval as the away side picked up the pace.

Late flurry
Candie Herbert, who was making her first appearance for the national team two-and-a-half years after winning her last cap, doubled France's lead four minutes after the break and Sonia Bompastor made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 70th minute. Two goals in the last five minutes, from Corinne Petit and Elodie Thomis, put the final gloss on the result. Greece, who have played four games to France's six, have three points and are joint bottom of the section. The home side's head coach Dimitrios Batsilas said: "We knew that France are a level above us and that was obvious on the pitch. We need to play well against Slovenia and Serbia in order to keep our qualification hopes alive."
