Austria find form in Poland

Poland 2-4 Austria
Austria revived their hopes of reaching the qualifying play-offs and dealt a blow to Poland's ambitions in Kutno.
Austria revived their hopes of reaching the UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying play-offs and dealt a blow to Poland's ambitions with an impressive win in Kutno.

Third-place race
Poland had begun Group 6 with a 1-0 win in Austria last May but were three down at half-time today and were never closer than within two goals of their visitors. Austria are within a point of third-placed Poland and have three games left to their rivals' two, including one away at bottom side Israel. Four of the six third-place finishers across the groups will reach October's play-offs.

Burger double
Marion Gröbner broke the deadlock on six minutes with a strong shot that proved too much for Poland's goalkeeper and it was 2-0 20 minutes later as Nina Aigner struck from distance. Nina Burger made it 3-0 late in the half and although Poland pulled one back on the hour, the striker scored again with 13 minutes left. Poland claimed a late consolation but Austria's points were secure.

Weber's pride
Victorious coach Ernst Weber said: "That was our best game for a long time. Finally we have played football again." Both these sides continue their campaigns at home to leaders Norway; Austria on 21 June and Poland four days later, when Weber's side are in Israel.
