Slovakia trip leaves Finland plenty to ponder

Finalists Finland had two disappointing results against Slovakia in Senec, drawing 0-0 and losing 3-1, leaving coach Andrée Jeglertz to acknowledge his side's shortcomings.

UEFA Women's EURO 2013 participants Finland followed up a goalless draw with Slovakia on Thursday by suffering a 3-1 defeat against the same opposition three days later.

Coach Andrée Jeglertz was critical of his team following Thursday's first instalment and it sparked a reaction, Sanna Talonen converting from close range midway through the first half. Their joy was short-lived, however, as Dominika Škorvánková restored parity two minutes later. The visitors failed to rediscover their composure after the break, with long-range strikes from Patrícia Fischerová and Dana Fecková securing Slovakia a commanding win.

"We played well for the opening 20 minutes, but we were poor from then on," said Jeglertz. "That said, Slovakia played well and there is much room for improvement from our side. We need to rethink where our strengths lie and make the necessary changes. It takes a lot of work, but at least we have got some answers from these two games."
