From record crowds at the London Olympic Games, to winning the Club England Team of the Year award, 2012 was a historic year for Hope Powell's squad.

Powell managed a Casey Stoney-captained Great Britain side made up largely of England players to the Olympic women's football quarter-finals, beating Brazil 1-0 at Wembley with a goal from Arsenal LFC full-back Stephanie Houghton. The following month England sealed their place at UEFA Women's EURO 2013, and in July they will face Spain, Russia and France in Linkoping as they bid to go one better than their runners-up finish in Finland four years ago.

UEFA.com spoke to defensive colleagues Stoney and Houghton as they looked back on a memorable year and forward to a summer they hope will bring even more glory. Already in 2013 they have won the Cyprus Women's Cup and last week beat Canada 1-0 in a friendly to go ten games unbeaten. As Houghton said: "Playing in the Olympics in front of a home crowd was something special, and hopefully we can take that into Sweden in a few months' time."
