Iceland momentum halted by Scotland defeat

Iceland suffered a setback in their UEFA Women's EURO 2013 preparations as Sigurdur Eyjolfsson's side suffered a 3-2 friendly defeat at the hands of Scotland in Reykjavik.

Iceland's preparations for the UEFA Women's EURO 2013 suffered a setback as Scotland inflicted a 3-2 home defeat on Sigurdur Eyjolfsson's side in Reykjavik.

The visitors, who failed to make the finals due to a play-off loss against Spain, were keen to show their quality and were two up inside 13 minutes. Glasgow City LFC's Leanne Crichton opened the scoring after 11 minutes, and moments later club-mate Leanne Ross doubled the advantage.

Sara Bjork Gunnarsdóttir pulled one back for the hosts, but the two-goal cushion was restored on 33 minutes as Emily Thomson notched her first goal in Scotland colours. Hólmfrídur Magnúsdóttir pulled one back after the interval, but the visitors dug deep to hold on to a victory which bodes well ahead of their FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign which kicks off in September.

Iceland have one more friendly to get things right before they take on Norway in their Group B opener on 11 July, as they travel to Viborg to play Denmark on 20 June.
