Resilient Brazil peg back Sweden

Sweden 1-1 Brazil
Nilla Fischer headed the home side into an early lead in Stockholm but Andressa's first-half penalty denied them victory.

Sweden continued their preparations for UEFA Women's EURO 2013 with a 1-1 draw against Brazil in Stockholm.

Sweden made the perfect start at the Söderstadion when Nilla Fischer headed in an Antonia Göransson corner in the sixth minute, and the two combined to produce the best of the home side's other chances in the game. However, the finals hosts were pegged back when Andressa levelled from the penalty spot.

Sweden's strong start included not only the opening goal but also an agonisingly close effort from Caroline Seger in the tenth minute, her curling shot hitting both posts before bouncing to safety. Kosovare Asllani and Lotta Schelin were purposeful without troubling the Brazil goalkeeper so it was left to Fischer, who twice headed Göransson corners over, to provide the greater threat.

Göransson's next contribution was more telling, however, as she upended Rosana in the area, giving Andressa the chance to stroke the equaliser past Sofia Lundgren after 31 minutes.

"I ought to have got two more goals," said Fischer, while her coach Pia Sundhage was happy with the way the Sweden goal came about. "We got a lot of corners and the closer we get to the tournament, the more important they will be," she said. "We'll be spending lots more time working on set pieces."

Sundhage will confirm her 23-strong finals squad next Tuesday, with their last warm-up game at home to England on 4 July. Six days later they open their finals campaign against Denmark in Gothenburg before also meeting Finland and Italy in Group A.
