Andersson enjoying Sweden's summer of success

"It's not only the Swedish games that have sold out; it's a really good atmosphere," says ambassador Patrik Andersson, looking forward to the hosts facing Germany.

If the job of a tournament ambassador is to give a competition a high profile and promote ticket sales, Patrik Andersson can be said to have carried out his mission in style at UEFA Women's EURO 2013.

Ticket sales have smashed all previous records and Sunday's final is comfortably set to have the highest crowd in the championship's history, with nearly half the matches in Sweden selling out – and not just those involving the hosts. The home nation take on holders Germany in Wednesday's semi-final in Gothenburg and ex-men's international Andersson, who has shared his role as tournament ambassador with former Germany defender Steffi Jones, is looking forward to the contest.

"It will be a huge game," Andersson, a UEFA Champions League-winning centre-back with FC Bayern München, told UEFA.com. "Our defence hasn't been tested yet and we'll see now, because Germany have some good names up front. But this is also maybe the first time that the Swedes are not the underdogs. Now they are perhaps slightly the favourites and that's a new experience, so it will be really interesting to see how Pia Sundhage will prepare the team and how they deal with the game."

Andersson has been delighted with the crowds throughout Sweden over the last two weeks. "It's great seeing full stadiums in Vaxjo, Kalmar and also in Linkoping and Norrkoping," the 41-year-old said. "It's not only the Swedish games that have been sold out. It's a really good atmosphere."
