Scotland and Spain draw in Glasgow

Scotland 1-1 Spain
Kim Little put the hosts in front but Adriana, who later missed a penalty, earned Spain a draw ahead of next week's play-off second leg in Madrid.

Adriana scored and missed a penalty as Spain came from behind to draw 1-1 with Scotland in the first leg of their UEFA European Women's Championship play-off.

Scotland took the lead on 24 minutes through Kim Little's penalty, but Adriana levelled for the visitors on the half-hour. The same player had the chance to put Ignacio Quereda's side in front before the break, but her spot kick was saved by home goalkeeper Gemma Fay.

Spain enjoyed superior possession from the off but Scotland soothed their nerves midway through the first half. Though Jennifer Beattie's header from a corner was kept out by Ainhoa Tirapu, Erika Vázquez was penalised for handball and Little did the necessary from the spot.

Falling behind spurred Spain into action and they were swiftly level. Sonia's shot was spilled by Fay and Adriana was on hand to finish the rebound. They could have completed the turnaround after a Rhonda Jones handball inside the area, but Adriana was thwarted by Fay.

Spain remained in charge after the interval, but managed only to fashion a succession of long-range shots. Anna Signeul introduced Emma Mitchell for the hosts, and she went close on 65 minutes. Vázquez then nearly scored for Spain and Adriana hit the bar, but neither side was able to find a winner.

The second leg takes place in Madrid on Wednesday.
