Iceland's UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying campaign is back on track after a comfortable victory in Serbia.
Having won their first three Group 3 games, including memorably against France, Iceland suffered a surprise 2-1 reverse in Slovenia last August. But today's triumph means that if Iceland win at home to Slovenia and Greece in June, they will only need a draw in France on 27 September to qualify without recourse for the play-offs.
Vidarsdóttir scores twice
Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir claimed her fifth qualifying goal just four minutes in to get Iceland off on the right track, and early in the second half Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir doubled the lead. Vidarsdóttir made it 3-0 on 67 minutes and Katrín Ómarsdóttir was then brought on and swiftly registered Iceland's fourth. Serbia, who have now lost six straight qualifying games since starting with a 5-0 win in Slovenia, must win in Greece on 27 September to have a chance of avoiding a bottom-place finish.
