Portugal frustrate Scotland

Scotland 0-0 Portugal The points were shared in Perth as Scotland failed to make the most of their chances in their opening Group 5 qualifier.

Scotland and Portugal shared the points in Perth as defences were on top in the two sides' UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009 Group 5 qualifier.

Scotland pressure
The hosts, captained by UEFA Women's Cup winner with Arsenal LFC, Julie Fleeting, were on top for much of the contest at McDiarmid Park but were unable to make the pressure tell, twice hitting the crossbar in the opening 45 minutes. Portugal fought back well in a more even second period but could not find a way past Gemma Fay, who made two excellent saves to keep the visitors out. Scotland, for whom the match against Portugal was their first in the group, next travel to Ukraine on 30 May while Portugal have to wait until October for their next action. They visit pool favourites Denmark on 27 October and are looking for their first victory following defeat to Slovakia in April.
