Natasha Dowie

National team: England

Which player most inspired you and why? Mia Hamm – the best striker in the world when I was growing up.

Which coach most inspired you? My father. Got me playing the sport and has travelled everywhere with me to watch me play and support me. He has played and managed (A licence coach).

What was the best advice they gave you? Always believe in yourself and think you're the best.

Best player you've played with? Kelly Smith of England and Arsenal LFC.

Toughest opponent? Wendie Renard, centre-half for France.

What are your memories of your first club as a child? My first club was Harpenden Colts FC, my local town. My dad was my coach and started the club up with a group of my friends. It then progressed to having all age groups, from under-13s up to the senior team.  I remember always winning player of the year and being presented my trophy one year by Lee Dixon of Arsenal FC. I always had so much fun with friends every weekend.  My family were on the sidelines every game cheering me and my sister on, who played for the younger team.

What tip would you give a young player hoping to succeed? Never stop loving the game. You have to be dedicated and hard working. You have to make a lot of sacrifices. Always want to improve and learn.  Set yourself targets and goals. Love to win!

What was the experience of playing in a youth final tournament? I  played in [the 2007] UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship where we reached the final but lost to Germany 2-0 in extra time. It was an amazing experience to play in front of big crowds. I have played in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile, reaching the quarter-finals where we were defeated 2-0 by the United States. I am very lucky to be able to travel the world with football, at international and domestic level.
