Captain Julie Marichaud restored some pride for France as they ended their UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship campaign on a high note with a 1-0 win that confirmed Scotland's elimination.

Having lost to Spain and Germany, France were unable to progress, but Scotland – on one point – still had a chance. After a hearty rendition of the national anthem, Scotland showed guile and determination in their quest for a win but were to be defeated, and in any case a victory would not have been enough as Spain beat Germany to join them in the last four.

The first chance went France's way, with Anissa Lahmari stinging the palms of Rebecca Flaherty. Scotland's answer came from Erin Cuthbert's charge through with Mylène Chavas tested for the first time, but had it not been for a goal-line clearance from Carla Jackson from Lahmari's header, they would have found themselves behind at the break.

Alyshia Walker passed up a good early chance in the second half as the Scots reverted to a counterattacking style. Back at the other end, Delphine Cascarino wasted a one-on-one opportunity before captain Marichaud volleyed their winner direct from a Manon Uffren corner.
