France and Russia look forward

Stéphane Pilard hailed France's progress, while Russia "have a lot in reserve" ahead of their semi-final date.

Stéphane Pilard, France
I'm doubly satisfied as we have qualified for the semi-finals and the World Championship. However, it's a mixed feeling as we didn't play our game in the first half. We were tense and were not able to string any passes together. We brought in some new players which could be a reason - they don't have as much experience and were probably a bit more nervous than the regulars. All the teams which have reached the last four are at a high level and everything which happens now is a bonus because our objective was to reach the semi-finals.

Mo Marley, England
It was an open game, end to end. We took the game to them for the first third and created some chances. They managed to put some pressure on us at the end of the first half as we were defending our early goal. I've got no complaints as both teams were doing their best to win it and a draw was a fair reflection. You want to play the best teams and go as far as you can in these competitions but the [UEFA] European [Women's Under-19] Championship wasn't to be for us and we must now aim to get to and go as far as we can in the World Championship.

Valentin Grishin, Russia
How well we played may have been irrelevant as not everything in this group was up to us. Fortunately, our girls played really well even though the heat made it difficult for both teams. We are obviously happy that France played as well as they did in the other game and fought to the end and I believe the two best teams from Group B have qualified for the semi-finals. I'm looking forward to the semi-finals and must admit that we still have a lot in reserve. I will not reveal what but we can play better and we might even make some changes to achieve this. One thing I can promise: there will be no repeat of the semi-final a year ago in Finland.

Tony Gervaise, Scotland
Obviously I'm a bit disappointed, but not with the performance of the girls - they gave everything and I am very, very proud of them. Even though we lost 5-0 this was the best game of the tournament for us in terms of keeping possession of the ball which was the only negative aspect in the previous two games. The only thing that disappoints me is that we did not score, as we have done in nine previous official matches. Otherwise the physical and mental aspects and the determination of our girls was just great.
