Switzerland return to this stage keen to build on their performance in 2009 when, with Ramona Bachmann starring, they defeated Germany en route to the last four. That is their best performance at this level, though they almost made an immediate impression when the competition switched from U18 to U19 format in 2002.

Edged out by England in a three-way head-to-head tie-break also involving Norway in that inaugural season, Switzerland returned in 2004 only for defeats by eventual finalists Germany and Spain to spell a quick end. Knocked out early on home turf in 2006, they had to wait until 2009 before returning to the finals then failed to qualify 12 months ago.
