Turkey proud, Romania magnanimous in defeat

Taygun Erdem was confident of sustaining Turkey's hopes after drawing with Portugal, while Romania's Mirel Albon remained pragmatic despite defeat against Denmark.

Turkey and Portugal failed to find the net on their UEFA European Women's Under-19 debuts but it was a result that left coaches Taygun Erdem and José Paisana singing their sides' praises. Group A pacesetters Denmark snatched a late winner against Romania and victorious coach Søren Randa-Boldt admitted it took divine intervention to see his side over the line.

TURKEY 0-0 PORTUGAL
Taygun Erdem, Turkey coach
It was a very entertaining game. We did our homework on Portugal. We analysed them a lot and tried to close them down. We played very well and what pleased me most was the fact we managed to stop their key players. Now, there are two games to play and we need to make sure we win them. We remain confident and as a nation, we always believe we can achieve our goals and accomplish our mission. Filiz [İşikırık] is a player who has come from nowhere. She is one of the quickest players in the women's game and in terms of technical ability she is going to develop more with every game. I would like to congratulate our opponents. All of my squad members are equally valuable and we are united as a team.

José Paisana, Portugal coach
The most important thing was our performance. We played well and provided good entertainment A draw was a fair result. We tried to win the game but came up against a very organised side in Turkey. I congratulated the players and told them to enjoy the moment. They should hold their heads up high. It was our first ever game at the championships and we coped extremely well. It is a very young team and there are always areas to improve. We need to be more clinical in the final third and keep possession a little better. I am very proud of everyone. Everything that we planned we managed to pull off. The draw was fair enough, they are a very dangerous and organised team. The game was played in the right spirit and it was very competitive.

DENMARK 1-0 ROMANIA
Mirel Daniel Albon, Romania coach
I think it was a good match and the girls did really well. It wasn't nice to concede a goal in the last few minutes but that's football. First and foremost we are happy to be here participating in the tournament. The girls have shown their value and we are a very young team. The experience they have gained will serve them well in the future. I hope we can learn from our mistakes and we will endeavour to do better in our next match. There are still two games to play and I hope we can qualify.

Søren Randa-Boldt, Denmark coach
I really enjoyed the match and it was great to score in the last minute. I was very satisfied with that. Now we look ahead to the next game against Turkey. This will be very difficult but we will enter the match in good spirits. I will make some changes for the match so that we have fresh legs to help us. When it was 0-0 in the 90th minute I was sure the game would end goalless. But I still had that glimmer of hope and with the help of God and my team we conjured up a winner.
