German efficiency
Germany, who claimed the trophy for the fifth time in Iceland last summer, had opened their Group 3 campaign with an 8-3 defeat of Russia on Thursday, and were in similar goalscoring mood against Romania in Mogosoaia. Lisa Schwab, Jessica Wich, Stefanie Mirlach and Schwab again got the goals for Germany, who only need a point from their final fixture, against Hungary on Tuesday, to book their place in the final tournament in France this July. Hungary revived their own qualifying aspirations with a 1-0 defeat of Russia.

Second victories
In Group 4 Denmark were 2-0 winners against Belarus and Scotland beat Belarus, while Sweden overcame mini-tournament hosts Austria 2-0 to ensure they finish top of Group 1 and book a return to the finals. Norway will be confident of progressing from Group 5 after following their 6-1 win against Ukraine on Matchday 1 with a 5-1 victory against Portugal, Katrine Andresen putting them in front before Marita Eide, Ingvild Isaksen, Maren Mjelde and Hege Hansen struck in the final 15 minutes to seal the points after Elsa Ventura's 73rd-minute equaliser.

Ireland inspired
Runners-up to Germany last summer, England added a 4-0 win against Belgium to their opening win versus Poland to build up an unassailable lead in Group 2. Finally, Spain lead the way in Group 6 with six points, three more than the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland after a 2-0 win against the former in Madrid. Serbia, beaten 7-0 by the Spanish on Thursday, went down by the same score against Ireland, for whom Noelle Murray scored twice with Gillian McDonnell, Amanda Parkes, Julieann Russell, Stephanie Roche and Jadine Madden also on the scoresheet.
