Serbia and England claim consolation point

Serbia 0-0 England
The eliminated duo finally got off the mark after playing out a goalless draw at Titanic Stadium in their final match in Group B.

Already resigned to returning home early, Serbia and England played out a goalless stalemate which earned both teams their first point in UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship Group B.

The two sides had suffered defeats to Spain and Sweden in their first two games and their desperation not to leave Antalya empty-handed made for a keenly fought and even encounter at Titanic Stadium.

England edged the first period and Serbia had goalkeeper Katarina Vojinović to thank for keeping them in the contest. The lively Keira Ramshaw tested the shot-stopper on 15 minutes, but Vojinović denied her with a fine save.

Sherry McCue and Ramshaw both fired good chances over, while Vojinović was the star for the remainder of the half. She blocked excellently from Ramshaw at close range on 33 minutes and brilliantly caught Jessica Sigsworth's powerful effort when one-on-one four minutes later.

Serbia came into the game much more after the restart, but it proved a very similar story, with England having the better chances and again being frustrated by the white-hot Vojinović.

The keeper saved first from Bethany Mead's volley after McCue had found her team-mate with a precise delivery, before producing a marvellous fingertip stop from Jasmine Matthews' superbly hit effort from the left.

Vojinović's counterpart was then forced into action for the first time on 72 minutes as Serbia sought to exploit England's profligacy. Nevena Damjanović's lofted ball picked out the run of namesake Jovana, but Mary Earps made a strong save down to her right to maintain parity. Nevena Damjanović then had an effort of her own moments later with a first-time strike from Jelena Čanković's cross-field pass, but again Earps was equal to it.

Sigsworth had a chance to snatch the win when substitute Nikita Parris sent her clean through, but she pulled her low effort wide of the left post as both sides finished the night – and their respective campaigns – with a point.
