The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup finals were held in Germany, and were won by Japan.
Games run from 26 June until 17 July 2011, with the opening match at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Fixtures continued Augsburg, Bochum, Dresden, Leverkusen, Monchengladbach, Sinsheim, Wolfsburg and the Frankfurt Arena, where Japan beat the United States in the final. More details can be seen on FIFA's official website.
As a result of reaching the semi-finals, Sweden and France were the best-placed European teams and thus join the British hosts in the 12-nation Olympic women's football tournament, which will run from 25 July until 9 August 2012 and conclude at Wembley.
The 2015 edition will be in Canada, with European qualifying to run in the two years prior to that date. There will be 24 teams in the final tournament, an increase from 16.
