The Group 4 leaders had begun their FIFA Women's World Cup campaign with two commanding home wins, 5-1 against the Republic of Ireland and 6-0 against Scotland, but this was their first test on the road. It proved no problem as the Swiss were beaten by goals in each half.
Morozova, who played a key role as Russia won the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship in July, broke the deadlock with her second goal in two qualifiers in the third minute before Kurochkina doubled the Russian advantage in the 54th minute. It was her third goal of the campaign so far, after she struck twice against the Irish.
