Marsico clincher
Nataliya Zinchenko’s early opener for visitors momentarily had nerves jangling before normal service was resumed. Tatiana Zorri levelled on 20 minutes, before Venusia Paliotti gave Italy the lead four minutes into first-half injury time. Lina Marsico sealed the points twelve minutes from time, making it 3-1.
Group favourites
The win takes Italy second in the pool, three points behind Norway with a game in hand, with Ukraine bottom after two defeats. Only the group winners progress to China, and Italy's trip to Norway on 29 October looks pivotal. Ukraine travel to Serbia and Montenegro the following week.
