Four more teams booked places in the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying play-offs on Saturday as France, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland all clinched first spot in their groups.

With England and Italy having already made sure of their presence in the draw on 30 August for the two-legged ties on 11/12 and 15/16 September, six more berths remained up for grabs before the conclusion of the group stage. Following the weekend action, only two groups are still unresolved ahead of Wednesday's final matches.

In Group 1, France travelled to Iceland knowing that victory would put them out of reach of their hosts with a game to spare, and Gaëtane Thiney's goal on the hour was not only Les Bleues' 43rd without reply in the section, it kept up the only perfect record on the continent. The top two were also pitted together in Group 8 and Sweden, needing only a draw, won 1-0 in the Czech Republic through Caroline Seger.

Norway prevailed 4-0 in Slovakia to ensure the Netherlands could not catch them in Group 2, while surprise package Switzerland made certain Russia will not overtake them in Group 6, Ana Maria Crnogorcevic scoring five goals in an 8-0 defeat of Kazakhstan.

The two remaining groups will be settled on Wednesday in games between the top two nations in their respective sections. In Group 3, Scotland beat Greece 4-1 to move within a point of Denmark, their hosts on Wednesday and a side that has plundered 45 goals without reply. Meanwhile, Ukraine's 3-1 win against Romania in Chernigov means that they will pip Poland if they can overcome their neighbours at the same venue.
