France, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland ensured their places in next month's FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying play-offs with victories on Saturday.
Les Bleues and Sweden both won 1-0 away against their nearest rivals to ensure first place in their groups, Norway triumphed 4-0 in Slovakia to move out of the Netherlands' reach and five Ana Maria Crnogorcevic goals helped Switzerland beat Kazakstan 8-0 to confirm they, and not top seeds Russia, would progress from Group 6. UEFA.com rounds up the reaction from the decisive ties.
Iceland 0-1 France
Laura Georges, France defender
It was a struggle. We first had to respond to the attacks that Iceland launched early on. After the storm in the first 15 minutes we raised our game and the game was balanced before we took the ascendancy.
It is a very good result, but we still be up for Wednesday's game against Serbia. After that, another adventure begins.
Siggi Eyjólfsson, Iceland coach
All in all we played well but the French team are very strong. We gave them a hard time and I can see the team progressing in the right direction. It is very tough to get to a World Cup final tournament and only four European teams progress through these stages. Today we aren't one of the best four European nations but we are slowly and steadily reaching them.
Czech Republic 0-1 Sweden
Caroline Seger, Sweden goalscorer
It was a similar game to our last one against the Czech Republic [that finished 0-0] , they defended in numbers. Then I scored – I was free and got a good ball from the left. The Czech defenders were watching the ball.
My strike wasn't the best but it was enough.
Slovakia 0-4 Norway
Eli Landsem, Norway coach
It was a very important game for us. We came to Slovakia to secure a spot in the play-offs and wanted to win to boost our morale and get a good work-out before the play-offs. We played the way we agreed on in the dressing room, that's why we were successful.
We have played well throughout the whole qualifying campaign, however some results were not as good as we hoped.
Zsolt Pakusza, Slovakia coach
We were better than in our previous [1-0 defeat in Norway] despite losing by a bigger margin. I am sad we did not score at least one goal. Unlike in Norway, where we defended for the whole match, we played attacking football today. Congratulations to Norway, they deserved a spot in the play-offs.
Switzerland 8-0 Kazakhstan
Béatrice Von Siebenthal, Switzerland coach
I'm surprised that we have won our group. That makes us proud and confident. In the play-offs we will not be favourites, the other teams are under pressure. And they will have to be very strong to beat us.
Ana Maria Crnogorcevic, Switzerland striker
Five goals in one match, that's unusual of course. But all my goals were well created. Thanks to my team-mates! To be in the play-offs is a great success for us. We want to qualify now, absolutely.
Martina Moser, Switzerland midfielder
The first game in Kazakhstan [that Switzerland won 4-2] was hard for us. We wanted to avoid these mistakes today. In particular our defence was very good today.
Now we are 180 minutes away from Germany. We are buzzing about the World Cup.
