Women's World Cup play-off draw on Monday

UEFA president Michel Platini will make the play-off draw at 14.00CET on Monday with seeds France, Sweden, Norway and England to face one of Denmark, Italy, Ukraine or Switzerland.

Eight teams will enter the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying play-off draw at 14.00CET on Monday, to be made made by Michael Platini, the UEFA president.

The eight qualifying round group winners will compete on 11/12 and 15/16 September in four two-legged ties, after which the victors will join hosts and holders Germany in next summer's finals. Sweden, France, Norway and England will be seeded, with Denmark, Italy, Ukraine and Switzerland forming their possible opposition. The seeding was determined, as per the regulations, by qualifying results for this competition and UEFA Women's EURO 2009, and that meant Denmark finished just behind fourth-placed England after being held 0-0 by Scotland on Wednesday.

In the draw, the balls containing the names of the four seeded teams will be placed in one bowl and the balls containing the names of the four unseeded teams will be placed in another. A ball will be taken from each bowl and placed in an empty bowl in the middle, where they will be stirred. The first team drawn will play its first match at home against the second team drawn. This procedure will be repeated until all the pairings are complete.

While the four play-off winners will be assured of final tournament places, the teams defeated in those ties will not be out of the competition altogether. They will then compete in further two-legged knockout fixtures in October – also to be drawn on Monday – with the eventual winners going on to face the third-ranked CONCACAF side for an additional berth in the 16-team final tournament due to take place from 26 June to 17 July 2011.
