White returns in England colours

England have recalled Faye White for their FIFA Women's World Cup Group 5 qualifier against Austria, after she missed last month's draw with France.

England have recalled Faye White for their FIFA Women's World Cup Group 5 qualifier against Austria on 20 April.

One change
Arsenal LFC captain White was suspended for the goalless draw with France at Ewood Park last month but has been recalled by manager Hope Powell, at the expense of Laura Bassett, in what is the only change to the squad of 20. The group is evenly poised after the last round of fixtures, which left England just a point ahead of the Netherlands at the top of the standings.

'Commitment'
After sitting out the stalemate with Les Bleues, White is keen to make an impact on her return. She said: "It was frustrating to watch the France game, and despite that being a very good result, I think a lot of the players were disappointed. We are delighted to be in the position that we're in on top of the group, and we'll be looking for the same commitment against Austria."

Austrians 'can punish'
In the corresponding fixture last September, Natascha Celouch gave the Austrians a shock lead when she outpaced Alex Scott to score before England recovered to win 4-1, and White is quick to dispell any notions of complacency. "Sometimes people look at the world rankings and see that we are 13th and Austria are 45th but as they proved in Amstetten, if we aren't on our game, they have players who can punish us," she said.

Unbeaten run
The draw with France extended England's unbeaten run to seven matches - including three World Cup qualifier wins - but left Les Bleues two points behind, and Austria off the pace a further seven points back. Only one team automatically progresses to the finals in China in 2007.
