Denmark hire Heiner-Møller

Kenneth Heiner-Møller will take over as coach of Denmark when Peter Bonde steps down at the end of June to take up his new post as assistant coach with the men's national team.

First target
The 35-year-old, whose contract with leading club Brøndby IF expires in June, will oversee Denmark's final two qualifiers as they bid to reach the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. "It came as a surprise to me when the Danish Football Association asked me but it was a job I couldn't turn down," said Heiner-Møller, who has signed a three year contract.

Young players
"My first goal will be to lead the team to the World Cup finals in China next year," added new coach. "What also interested me in the job is that there are several young players in the team and that will enable me to develop the team further and improve the results even more in future."

The right man
DBU general secretary Jim Sjterne Hansen was delighted with the appointment, saying: "We wanted a person with good relations with the league clubs as co-operation is essential for a national coach. Furthermore, Kenneth has got great results with Brøndby so far this season and that shows his ability." Denmark are well placed to win Group 3 and seal a spot in China.
