Denmark without Brøndby contingent

Kenneth Heiner-Møller has named a squad bereft of any Brøndby IF players for an eight-team tournament in the Korea Republic due to the Danish champions' progress in the UEFA Women's Cup.

Brøndby IF's progress to the UEFA Women's Cup semi-finals has had a knock-on effect for the national team, with coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller opting against taking any players from the Danish champions to the Peace Queen Cup in the Korea Republic.

Leading names
Having recently qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup, Denmark will compete in the eight-team tournament - scheduled for 28 October to 4 November - to get acquainted with conditions in the area with next September's finals in China in mind. Their chances of winning the event, though, will be restricted by the absence of many of their leading names - seven Brøndby players started the 1-0 defeat of Finland which sealed a berth in the World Cup. Brøndby entertain Arsenal LFC in their semi-final first leg on 4/5 November, with the return in England scheduled for the following week.

Heiner-Møller said: "Of course, it's annoying that we cannot send our strongest team having been invited to such a big tournament, but on the other hands I can only be happy that Brøndby are doing so well in Europe. This gives me an opportunity to test some new players." One of which is the uncapped Fortuna Hjørring winger Maja Juliussen, 23. "She possesses qualities needed for the national team," added Heiner-Møller, who will be pleased to recall leading scorer Merete Pedersen after missing the Finland match through injury.
