• Inspired by her football coach father, she showed a talent from an early age, and first made her name at senior level with Kolbotn.

• Had to wait until she was 22 before making her bow with the national team, debuting in a 3-1 defeat to the United States in January 2003.

• The commanding midfielder has been voted Norwegian Women's Player of the Year twice, and has been nominated as FIFA Women's World Player of the Year on four occasions.

• Enjoyed a remarkably successful two year spell with Lyon which reaped a French championship, the French Cup, and a crowning triumph in the 2010/11 UEFA Women's Champions League after finishing runners-up the year previous. She then joined Göteborg and won the Swedish Cup before returning to Norway with Stabæk for 2012.

• Helped her country to second-place at UEFA Women's EURO 2005 as Norway were beaten by Germany in the final. In September 2011, she reached the milestone of 100 caps, a feat accomplished over eight years of national service.

• In early 2009, she was named as captain of Norway.
