Kozák installed as Slovakia coach

"Now it is my turn to work seriously," said Ján Kozák after he signed a contract until November 2015 to succeed Stanislav Griga and Michal Hipp as Slovakia head coach.

The Slovak Football Association (SFZ) have appointed Ján Kozák to replace Stanislav Griga and Michal Hipp as head coach of the Slovakian national team.

Ten of the 11 members of the SFZ executive committee voted in favour of the MFK Košice boss taking the reins, with Štefan Tarkovič as his assistant, and the coach has signed a contract until November 2015. Kozák replaces Griga and Hipp, who were appointed in April 2012 but left following the 1-1 draw with Liechtenstein on 7 June, and will lead Slovakia through their final four games of FIFA World Cup qualifying Group G.

"I feel mixed emotions, as I had to leave a well-known place," said the 59-year-old. "I had very good people around me at Košice, but I have to say thanks to the people who voted me in. Now it is my turn to work seriously and prove to them that I am the right person for this job."

A Czechoslovakian champion in 1982 with FK Dukla Praha, Kozák will start with a friendly in Romania on 14 August, before a pair of games against group leaders Bosnia and Herzegovina on 6 and 10 September. Third-placed Slovakia are currently seven points adrift of the summit, and four behind second-placed Greece.
