Belgium's Benteke ruled out of World Cup

Belgium striker Christian Benteke will miss this summer's FIFA World Cup in Brazil after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training with Aston Villa FC on Thursday.

Belgium striker Christian Benteke has been ruled out of this summer's FIFA World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury in training with club side Aston Villa FC on Thursday and is likely to be out for a minimum of six months. "It's a terrible blow both for Christian and for the club," said Villa boss Paul Lambert. "But he'll work hard because that's what he does and he'll come back for us stronger than ever next season." Benteke started seven of Belgium's ten World Cup qualifiers, scoring twice as they booked a place in Brazil.
