Mujdža the main doubt in Bosnian squad

Safet Sušić has named the squad that will be the first to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at a major finals but is waiting on the fitness of Mensur Mujdža before confirming the 23.

Safet Sušić has named the squad that will be the first to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at a major final tournament – but is waiting on the fitness of Mensur Mujdža before confirming the 23.

The 24 players – including newly-crowned English champion Edin Džeko of Manchester City FC, AS Roma's Miralem Pjanić and six based in the Bundesliga – will meet up on Thursday in Sarajevo for a training camp including a friendly with a young domestic league XI on 22 May. They then cross the Atlantic to meet Ivory Coast on 30 May in St Louis, and Mexico in Chicago four days later prior to travelling to Sao Paulo.

Sušić said: "I have invited 24 players who I will consider for Brazil. Although I may only take 23 players, all 24 will be part of preparations, and will travel first to the United States and then to Brazil. I have taken one player extra because I do not know how the treatment of injured Mensur Mujdža will unfold.

"The first part of the preparation will be carried out in Sarajevo, as the players wanted. The most important thing is that players are healthy and mostly all are in good shape, which is shown in their performance for their clubs in the last league games."

Bosnia and Herzegovina are in Group F in the World Cup, starting against Argentina in Rio de Janiero on 15 June. Six days later they take on Nigeria in Cuiaba before facing Iran on 25 June in Salvador.
