Romania midfielder Dorinel Munteanu has announced his retirement from the national team at the age of 36.
Denied a chance
Munteanu, capped 119 times, said he was disappointed not to be included in Anghel Iordanescu's squad to face F.Y.R. Macedonia and Andorra in FIFA World Cup qualifiers this week. "I think I deserved a chance to bow out at the top as an international player," he said. Munteanu, who is also an assistant coach with FC Steaua Bucuresti, expects to play out the last two years of his contract with the capital club.
