Löw agrees new Germany contract

Germany coach Joachim Löw has agreed a two-year extension to his contract, tying the former SC Freiburg striker, 49, to the role until after the UEFA EURO 2012™ finals in Poland and Ukraine.

Germany coach Joachim Löw has agreed a two-year extension to his contract that will take him through to UEFA EURO 2012™.

Verbal deal
The 49-year-old, who had a contract until after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, reached a verbal agreement with the German Football Association (DFB) on Wednesday. Löw, who spent most of his playing career at VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg, joined the DFB in July 2004 as assistant to Jürgen Klinsmann. He was promoted to head coach after the 2006 FIFA World Cup and steered his team to the final of UEFA EURO 2008™, where Spain won 1-0.

Qualifying winners
Some carefully selected reinforcements for their 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign helped them top Group 4 ahead of Russia. They will meet Serbia, Ghana and Australia in South Africa next summer. The DFB has also extended the contracts of Löw's assistant Hans-Dieter Flick, goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke and team manager Oliver Bierhoff.
