Albert positive about Belgium prospects

Having reached every FIFA World Cup from 1982–2002, Belgium have not qualified since. Ex-defender Philippe Albert tells UEFA.com they can end that run with a positive approach.

Belgium appeared at six FIFA World Cup final tournaments in a row between 1982 and 2002, but in Wales on Friday they begin their bid to reach Brazil 2014 having not achieved a major qualification since the finals in South Korea/Japan 12 years ago.

Among the stars of that happier era was central defender Philippe Albert, who shone when they got to the last 16 at USA '94, scoring twice. Describing that campaign as a "a unique experience", the former R. Charleroi SC, KV Mechelen, RSC Anderlecht, Newcastle United FC and Fulham FC player spoke to UEFA.com about the positive and winning football he believes Belgium's promising crop of youngsters can produce.

Albert also played alongside both late Wales manager Gary Speed and his successor Chris Coleman during his time in England, and he discusses the psychological approach of the new coach in what will be a "very tough game" in Cardiff on Friday.
