Despite being reduced to ten men, Finland came from behind to earn their first point in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group I and deny Georgia a second win of the campaign.
Chances were few and far between in the first half but the game came to life after the break when Guram Kashia gave Georgia a 56th-minute lead. Just three minutes later Finland's Aleksei Eremenko picked up his second yellow card and was dismissed but nevertheless the hosts rallied and earned a share of the spoils thanks to Kasper Hämäläinen's strike on 63 minutes.
Finland started brightly, Tim Sparv forcing Nukri Revishvili into a smart save with a shot from 25 metres, but both sides struggled to create opportunities in a tight opening period. The story of the game then unfolded in seven second-half minutes either side of the hour.
Kashia headed Georgia into the lead from a corner and Eremenko was given his marching orders shortly afterwards. Undeterred by their numerical disadvantage, Mixu Paatelainen's side fought back and levelled when Hämäläinen latched on to Sparv's through ball to score from a tight angle. Next up for Georgia is a trip to Belarus on Tuesday while Finland are not in action until March.
