Romania kept their momentum going in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group D, though Andorra put up some resistance at the National Arena in Bucharest.
Ildefons Lima gave Romania an early scare with a header that went off target, and Jesús Álvarez's side's resilience was beginning to be a concern when Gabriel Torje made the breakthrough with a shot from the edge of the penalty box on 29 minutes. Gheorghe Grozav then missed a golden chance to make it 2-0, but Costin Lazăr spared his blushes, firing a fine low effort past José Gómes just before the break.
Lima almost put the ball past his own goalkeeper on the hour from a Cristian Tănase cross, but Gómes saved. Marc Pujol then had a sniff at goal at the other end with Romania lacking inspiration, but Victor Piţurcă's side came good at the death, with two players scoring their first international goals in added time. First, Valerică Găman headed in from Torje's free-kick, before substitute Alexandru Maxim rounded off the scoring with an excellent individual effort.
Having won 2-0 in Estonia in their opening game, Romania have maximum points. They can expect a tougher challenge, though, when they face Turkey on 12 October.
