Bosnia and Herzegovina recovered from an early setback to continue their fine start in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group G, beating Latvia 4-1 in Zenica.
Kaspars Gorkšs found the target in the fifth minute for the visitors, steering Deniss Ivanovs flick into the net from close range following an Oļegs Laizāns corner, but the home side regrouped quickly, Zvjezdan Misimović replying from the penalty spot on 12 minutes after Edin Džeko was brought down in the area. Džeko was denied by Latvia goalkeeper Andrijs Vaņins as half-time approached, but made amends briskly, setting up Miralem Pjanić for Bosnia and Herzegovina's second.
Safet Sušić's side kept the goals coming after the break, and Pjanić laid on Misimović's 25th for his country nine minutes into the half. Vedad Ibišević then passed up two decent opportunities, and Džeko smacked another one against the post, but the Manchester City FC man was not to be denied, and duly joined Misimović on 25 goals with a stylish solo effort in added time.
Having never kicked off a qualifying campaign with back-to-back wins before, Bosnia and Herzegovina will look to reach nine points when they visit Greece on 12 October, while Latvia travel to face Slovakia on the same night.
