Ruslan Rotan

Ruslan Rotan

An experienced right-sided midfielder renowned for his honest endeavour and never-say-die attitude, Ruslan Rotan has played international football for Ukraine since 2003 and was a member of the 2006 FIFA World Cup party in Germany. He is now in his second spell at FC Dnipro Dnipretrovsk after a short stint with FC Dynamo Kyiv.

• Made his Ukrainian top-flight debut with Dnipro in the 1999/2000 season and made steady progress until the 2002/03 campaign, when he became a pivotal member of the team, scoring five goals in 29 appearances.

• Became a senior international that season, making his Ukraine bow in a goalless draw against Turkey on 12 February 2003; scored a last-minute winner on his competitive debut, a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan.

• Having made over 100 league appearances for Dnipro, he joined Dynamo in 2005 and won the Ukrainian Cup in his first season followed by the double in his second, which was hampered by injury.

• Returned to Dnipro midway through the 2007/08 campaign and re-established himself as one of their most influential players over the next few years.

• Started Ukraine's opening game at the 2006 World Cup but was dropped after the 4-0 defeat by Spain and made just two further substitute appearances; featured intermittently in next two qualifying campaigns and won his 50th cap on 1 June 2011 in Oleh Blokhin's first game back as national team coach − a 2-0 friendly win against Uzbekistan in Kyiv.
