Clubs: Hertha BSC Berlin, Zagłębie Lubin (loan), Borussia Dortmund

• Piszczek played at youth level in his homeland with Gwarek Zabrze before joining Hertha in 2004 at the age of 19. Returned immediately to Poland, joining Zagłębie on a loan that lasted three seasons; played up front and hit 11 goals as Zaglębie defied the odds to win the 2006/07 Polish title.

• First capped by Poland on 3 February 2007 against Estonia, his maiden start came 13 months later versus the United States; was summoned by Leo Beenhaaker to replace the injured Jakub Błaszczykowski in Poland's UEFA EURO 2008 squad and made one substitute outing at the finals – on matchday one against Germany.

• Rejoined Hertha in 2007 but spent much of the season on the bench until the closing weeks of the campaign, when he started the last nine matches; injured in 2008/09 and switched from an attacking role to right-back in 2009/10.

• Joined Dortmund on a three-year contract after Hertha were relegated and, benefiting from an injury to Patrick Owomoyela, soon established himself as their first-choice right-back in the Schwarzgelben's 2010/11 title-winning campaign while also cementing his place in the Poland team building towards UEFA EURO 2012.

• Helped the Ruhr Valley club retain the Bundesliga crown in 2011/12. The following season he featured in all but one of Dortmund's 12 matches en route to the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley.
