The 13th UEFA.com users' Team of the Year will be announced today after voting closed on Thursday.
A record tally of more than 6 million votes were cast from over 200 different countries – both via UEFA.com and the official @ChampionsLeague Twitter feed – since the poll opened on 4 December. Around 50% of voters arrived at the Team of the Year site via social media platforms such as UEFA.com's Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages.
The final lineup will be published on UEFA.com and in the January edition of Champions Matchday, the official UEFA Champions League magazine. Before that, you can see which players the experts – including the likes of Luís Figo, Franco Baresi, Fatih Terim and Gheorghe Hagi – picked in their star selections.
As in 2012, users picked their team in one of five formations, with four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, 12 midfielders and 12 forwards in contention. The nominees were chosen by UEFA.com staff writers on the basis of their performances for a European club or national team in 2013.
UEFA will present a €100,000 cheque to the captain – selected by users – of the UEFA.com users' Team of the Year 2013, which will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The UEFA.com users' Team of the Year is not intended to rival more established awards and does not bear the official UEFA imprimatur.
