Leonid Slutski has officially ended his reign as head coach of Russia in the wake of the national team's group stage exit at UEFA EURO 2016.
Russia finished bottom of Group B and took just one point from three games, after which Slutski tendered his resignation. The 45-year-old, who combined his Russia role with the job of CSKA Moskva coach, has now officially elected not to prolong his contract with the Russian Football Union (RFS).
"The Russian Football Union would like to thank Leonid Slutski, who led the national team through qualification to UEFA EURO 2016, for his work and professional approach," read a statement on the RFS website. "We also wish him all the best in his future career."
Russia will now seek their second coach in the space of a year, with Slutski having replaced Fabio Capello in August 2015. Slutski will lead CSKA into the UEFA Champions League group stage next season after they clinched the Russian Premier League title in 2015/16.
